Medge Hall 1986

Medge Hall box still stands, although I believe it is due to be replaced in the near future because of subsidence. Built by the MSLR in 1886, it originally housed a 12 lever RSC frame. The frame (shortened to 7 levers) still survives. The box supervises a level crossing and lies within the Doncaster PB control area on the Doncaster to Scunthorpe line. The barge boards in this view have been replaced at some time.

The RSC 'flat baseplate' lever frame. Levers 1 and 3 control the slots on the signals. Lever 2 releases an emergency crossover ground frame via the Annets key. Lever 5 is the gate lock (locked when normal) and lever 7 locks the wicket gates when reversed.

The Diagram. The level crossing shown to the left is Godnow Bridge.

A corner of the box. Note the clock with it's LNER label. This was placed over an earlier label (? GCR). Sadly the clock was stolen a few years ago whilst the box was closed over the Christmas holiday

A vintage GCR warning sign.

The box in 2001, looking rather dilapidated. The original GCR signs have gone and the toilet has been replaced with a much more 'tasteful' design.
