Hensall 1986

Hensall box is still open. It lies at the end of the single line section on the route between Goole to Knottingly and controls the junction to Drax power station. Note the motorised 'boom' gates popular in the North Eastern region. The layout is controlled from both a lever frame (home signals, up starter, wicket gates and main gate release) and an IFS panel.

Left hand end of diagram. Goole (on the single line) and Drax power station to the left

Right hand end of diagram. The next block post to the right is Sudforth Lane

Close up of IFS panel. Point switches are at the top and signals on the bottom row. The switches with a red background are for controlled signals, whilst the switches with a grey background control signals that are normally automatic but can be replaced to danger in an emergency.

The lever frame (Mackenzie & Holland Type 17). Note the long handled levers (nos. 8 & 9) for locking the wicket gates.
